In the second edition of the Catalunya Bike Race shifted by XTR, the well-known cyclist and ambassador of the race, José Antonio Hermida, ridden the entire route using the renewed Merida One-Twenty, a Trail bike with 120 millimetres of travel in the suspensions. Are the XC/Marathon bicycles evolving into larger travels? Hermida has it clear: yes.
José Antonio Hermida took part in the Catalunya Bike Race shifted by XTR on a Merida One-Twenty slightly different to the standard model, personalized according to the cyclist's preferences. Hermida was so well found rolling on his new bike, that he spread on social networks an illuminating prophecy accompanied by an equally prophetic image: " Record this photo with fire, tattoo or frame on the bedside table ... In very short time marathons and XC will be made with bikes of 120 mm...Time to time! ".
Is the industry preparing a new generation of XC/Marathon bikes with a longer travel? It wouldn't be surprising if you consider the evolution of this type of models over the last three years. The geometries have been modernised in the same way that new advances have emerged in manufacturing processes, allowing manufacturers to design bicycles that are more and more lightweight and efficient in terms of climbing and descending. A logical step in this evolution is to slightly increase the travel of the Cross Country bikes to make them more versatile. As Hermida says: time to time.
